(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson College softball team split a double-header with visiting Washington on Saturday. The Devils scored in the bottom of the ninth to take the opener, 4-3. The Shorewomen captured the nightcap, 7-2.

Washington jumped out to a 3-0 lead, behind a two-run homer by Sarah Pantinella in the third inning.

Denise Haines (Green Lane, Pa./St. Pius X) answered with a solo shot in the bottom of the fourth. Melissa Osborn (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island) singled and came around on a single by Katie Swade (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock).

Osborn doubled and pinch-runner Reiva Keith (Sanbornton, N.H./New Hampton School) came in to score on another RBI from Swade, tying the game, 3-3.

Osborn reached on an error in the ninth. She scored the game-winner as Stephanie Hammond (Kennett Square, Pa./Unionville) singled, giving the Devils the win.

Chelsea Homa (Newton, N.J./Newton) recorded 13 strikeouts to earn the win. She scattered five hits in a complete game effort.

Washington used a pair of doubles to score in the top of the second inning of game two. The Devils immediately responded in bottom half of the inning. Carly Jordan (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) singled and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. She stole third and came in on an error by the catcher to tie the game.

The Shorewomen capitalized on Devil errors and used a pair of doubles to take a 6-1 lead in the top of the fifth. Erin Owens (Fayetteville, Ga./Woodward Academy) doubled to score Swade in the bottom of the fifth.

Megan Gallagher pinch-hit for a single and came around to score for the final of 7-2. Homa added five strikeouts in the nightcap. Haines went 2-for-3 while Owens was 2-for-4. Swade added a hit and a run, drawing a pair of walks as well.

The Red Devils (6-18, 2-4 CC) are home against Gettysburg College on Tuesday evening at 5:00 pm.
