(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson College women's lacrosse team put a scare into #1-ranked Gettysburg with a late run, but the top-ranked Bullets held on for a 15-8 win.
The Bullets came out strong, scoring the first seven goals of the game. The Devils put one on the board at the 5:26 mark as first-year Megan Taylor (Kensington, Md./Academy of the Holy Cross) finished an assist from senior Taryn Abbassian (Vernon Hills, Ill./Vernon Hills).
Junior Val Hoffman (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) converted a free position shot to cut the margin to 7-2 before the Bullets answered with a pair of goals to close out the half, leading 9-2 at the break.
Hannah Church went right to goal, scoring just 12 seconds into the second half. Clare Manoli (Hudson, Ohio/Western Reserve Academy) and Kelly Haglund (Chevy Chase, Md./Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart) traded goals with Church and Lindsey Robinson to make the score, 12-4, with 17 minutes remaining in the game.
Church struck again before the Devils went on a run at the Bullets, midway through the second half. Dickinson tallied four straight goals, cutting the deficit to 13-8, with just under eight minutes to play in the game.
Dawson fed Abbassian and scored off an assist from Kaity Moore (Chestertown, Md./St. Andrew's) while Hoffman and Haglund each scored again with Moore recording another assist to keep the pressure on the Bullets.
Gettysburg regained control and tallied a pair of late goals for the final of 15-8.
Church led the Bullets (7-0, 3-0 CC) with six goals and an assist. Maddie Coleman made eight saves in goal for the Bullets.
Brett Whelan (Arlington, Mass./Arlington) controlled nine draws and picked-up five ground balls on the day. Junior Amanda Morse (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) played outstanding in the Dickinson cage, stopping 11 shots.
The Red Devils slip to 4-6 overall and 1-2 in the Centennial Conference. They travel to Haverford College on Saturday to face the 'Fords at 12:00 pm.
