Red Devils Starting to Click, Capture Third Straight Win

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson College women's lacrosse team posted back-to-back wins on Tuesday and Wednesday to improve to 7-9 overall and 4-4 in the Centennial Conference. Coming off a solid 17-9 win at Muhlenberg on Tuesday, the Devils returned home to complete a suspended game with Swarthmore on Wednesday, posting a 13-9 victory.

 

The game resumed with 16:06 remaining in the first half. Swarthmore struck first to even the game at 4-4 with 9:26 remaining in the half.

 

Junior Taryn Abbassian (Vernon Hills, Ill./Vernon Hills) and senior Sara Braniecki (Ocean City, Md./Stephen Decatur) answered before Marie Mutryn scored with 1:31 remaining to put the Devils in front, 6-5, at halftime.

 

After the break, the Devils answered the first two Swarthmore goals with a pair of their own to stretch the lead to 10-7 with 17:46 to play in regulation. Beth Martin cut the margin to 10-8, but this time the Devils answered with three straight before Annalise Penikis made the final, 13-9, with the Garnet's final goal at the 7:07 mark.

 

Junior Kaity Moore (Chestertown, Md./St .Andrew's) converted a pair of free position shots during the run while senior Kelsey Muir (Glen Mills, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame) tallied a goal and an assist.

 

First-year Lauren Jonas (Reisterstown, Md./McDonogh) netted the last, and two of the prettiest goals of the game, scoring off assists from Abbassian and Sunnie Ko (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) midway through the half.

 

Abbassian finished with three goals and one assist, controlling four draws. Muir added four draws to go with a two goals and an assist.

 

Sophomore goaltender Amanda Morse (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) made four saves, caused a pair of turnovers and picked up three ground balls. Jessie Clark (Devon, Pa./Conestoga) came on to stop three shots and cause a turnover as well.

 

The Red Devils are home again on Saturday, hosting #7-ranked Franklin & Marshall at 12:00 pm.
