(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson College women's softball team spit a double-header at McDaniel College on Tuesday afternoon. The Green Terror rallied with three runs in the fifth inning to capture game one, 4-2, while the Devils scored twice in the fourth to claim the nightcap 2-0.
McDaniel pushed across a run in the third inning but the Devils answered with four straight hits and a run in the top of the fourth to tie the game. Senior Emma Murtaugh (Holmdel, N.J./Holmdel) launched a solo shot in the fifth to put the Devils in front, 2-1.
Three Red Devil errors led to a big inning for McDaniel as they scored three runs on a pair of base-hits to take a 4-2 lead. The Devils threatened in the sixth, but stranded runners on second and third following a single by Denise Haines (Green Lane, Pa./St. Pius X) and a double from Kyrie Budnik (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area).
The Red Devils recorded 12 hits in the game. Allison Jordan (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) suffered the loss despite surrendering just five hits and one walk.
Carly Jordan (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) led-off the fourth with a single and moved to third on a double to left center by Murtaugh. Jordan would come in off the bat of Alesha Sisco (Effort, Pa./Blair Academy) to put the Devils on the board. Murtaugh came around on a miscue at first-base on a throw from third to add an insurance run.
First-year Chelsea Homa (Newton, N.J./Newton) closed the door, facing just 10 batters in the final three innings to secure the win. She went the distance for the complete game, striking out five while allowing just three hits.
The Red Devils stand at 8-10 overall and 3-1 in the Centennial Conference. They are scheduled to host nationally-ranked Messiah College on Thursday at 5:00 pm.
