(Lancaster, Pa.) – The Dickinson College field hockey team closed out the season with an outstanding effort at #7-ranked Franklin & Marshall on Monday. Coming off a 3-2 overtime win over nationally-ranked Juniata last week, the Devils turned in another solid performance, despite suffering a 2-0 setback to the Diplomats.
Chelsey Talhelm tallied both goals on the night, scoring the first off an assist from Allison McLaren, 8:18 into the contest. The Devils kept the Diplomats off the board for the remainder of the half, turning back 11 penalty corners.
Sophomore Katy Schlechtweg (Mount Laurel, N.J./Moorestown Friends) made eight saves, turning away five shots in the first half.
Talhelm scored off a rebound just under 10 minutes into the second half, giving the Diplomats a 2-0 advantage. That would be all the scoring as the Red Devil defense held for the remainder of the contest.
Avery Koep made a pair of saves to earn the shutout for F&M. The Diplomats improve to 15-2 overall finish unbeaten at 10-0 in the Centennial Conference. They will host the conference playoffs this weekend.
The Red Devils finish 5-12 overall and 1-9 in the conference.
