Red Devils Shutdown Shorewomen 20-10

(Carlisle, Pa.) - The Dickinson College women's lacrosse team bounced back from an early deficit and dominated the remainder of the contest to defeat Washington College, 20-10, on Saturday afternoon.

 

Junior Lucy West (Bethesda, Md./Holton-Arms) led the way for Dickinson with a game-high four goals. The win keeps Dickinson unbeaten in the Centennial Conference (2-0, 5-1 overall).

 

The Shorewomen struck first, just 50 seconds into the first half on a free position goal. Sophomore Taryn Abbassian (Vernon Hills, Ill./Vernon Hills) was quick to respond, scoring first for the Red Devils.

 

The teams traded goals before junior Kelsey Muir (Glen Mills, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame) scored the fifth goal of the contest at 17:53 off of an assist by senior Alysa Crellin (Little Compton, R.I./Portsmouth Abbey School) to put the Devils up 3-2. Lucy West then scored back-to-back goals, the second on an assist by sophomore Kaity Moore (Chestertown, Md.).

 

The Red Devils outscored Washington 9-2 to take a 14-5 advantage at halftime. The Shorewomen never gave up, scoring five more in the second half while holding Dickinson to just six in the final 30 minutes.

 

Sunnie Ko (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) turned in another excellent performance, controlling eight draws, a ground ball, and adding a pair of goals and an assist. Muir had an impressive day with three goals and two assists while Crellin added three goals and had one assist. West, in addition to her four goals, controlled three draws and two ground balls.

 

The defensive standout of the game was junior Maggie Peeke (Exeter, N.H./Exeter) with four caused turnovers and two ground balls. Mollie Shipley led Washington with three goals and a ground ball. Goaltender Stephanie Seibert had seven saves on the day.

 

First year goaltender Amanda Morse (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) came on for the second half of the matchup and posted six saves. Junior Jessie Clark (Devon, Pa./Conestoga) earned the win, making a pair of saves in the first half. Next up for the Red Devils is a home match against undefeated Haverford College, next Saturday at 12:00pm.
