(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson College women's volleyball team gave visiting Gettysburg all it could handle in Wednesday night's Centennial Conference match, taking the Bullets to five sets before falling 3-2.
The Bullets jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, capturing the first two sets, 25-15 and 25-18. The Devils pulled in front in the next two sets, holding off Gettysburg rallies in both to post 25-23 and 25-20 decisions, forcing a deciding fifth set.
The Bullets took an early lead with the Devils battling back once again. The Bullets would hold to capture the match with a 15-12 score in the final set.
Avery Zuvic (Cold Spring, N.Y./Haldane) led the way in the third set with four kills, finishing with 12 on the night. Emily Kisak (Columbia, Md./Howard) was perfect in the fourth set with five kills on the way to a team-high 13 for the match.
Jessy Cooper (Chantilly, Va./Chantilly) also reached double-figures with 10 kills while Alicia Palmieri (Linden, N.J./Union Catholic) recorded four aces and 10 digs to lead the Devils in both categories.
Grace Morgan (York, Pa./York Suburban) dished out 37 assists, two aces and recorded seven digs while Joanna De Castro (Far Hills, N.J./West Morris Mendham) added seven digs as well. Liz Norris (Southbury, Conn./Hotchkiss School) chipped in with five kills and a pair of blocks.
Virginia Hogan led the Bullets with 17 kills while Nicole Burns added 15 kills and 10 blocks on the night.
The Bullets improve to 15-13 overall and 6-3 in the conference. The Red Devils slip to 5-16 overall and 2-7 in the CC. Dickinson travels to Washington College for the season finale on Saturday. Opening serve is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
