Devils Kicked by Mules in Conference DH Sweep

CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson softball team fell victim to pair of late rallies from the visiting Muhlenberg College on Tuesday evening en route to suffering a doubleheader sweep at the hands of the Mules at Dickinson Park as they picked up wins of 6-3 and 5-3.

Pitching Decision - W - Samantha Fehrenbach (4-3) | L - Erin McMahon (4-4)

Inside the Game
  • Each team posed a threat in the second as Muhlenberg used a single, wild pitch and walk to put runners on the corners with two away, before Kaya Mahy popped up in foul territory. Dickinson would get a double from Marah Goldman along with a walk to Lauren Routzahn gave DC two runners with one out, but two flyouts ended the rally.
  • The home-half of the third is when the Red and White opened the scoring as with one gone, a walk to Jessie Sandusky and single by Jane Lloyd set the stage for Erin McMahon to help herself out with an RBI single to center, followed by Marah Goldman poking one up the left-field line to make it 2-0 through three.
  • After McMahon had another successful frame in the circle, the Devils pushed the margin to 3-0 during the last of the fourth as Elizabeth Raefski walked prior to coming home on a RBI knock to left for Sandusky.
  • However, the top of the sixth was when the Mules flipped the game completely around as a single, passed ball and walk had runners on the corners for Skyla Campisi who stuck an RBI two-bagger to left-center. A single and fielder's choice followed Campisi to draw the visitors level and chase McMahon from the circle. She was replaced by Emory Hadden who allowed a two-run double and then was victimized by an error to cap a six-run frame giving MC a 6-3 edge.
  • The Devils would get a runner in each of the last two frames, but would never get the tying run to the dish as a popup by Routzahn ended the game at 6-3.

Inside the Game
  • The Mules got to Kohan in the circle early in the contest as two singles and a sacrifice fly made it 1-0 through a half of an inning. Then, an inning later a hit batter and base hit from Scooter Hulsen led to Ellie Williams ripping a two-run double inside the left-field line for a 3-0 edge after two.
  • Kohan then settled things down not allowing the visitors to get anything going, unfortunately, though her offense was not able to get to MC starter Justine Bergara as she kept the Red and White completely off-balance through the opening three innings.
  • However, during the last of the fourth Dickinson finally was able to get on the board as a Sandusky single and Lloyd double placed two in scoring position for Eden Blanker. She would plate one by reaching on a fielder's choice, before a sacrifice fly for McMahon and RBI groundout off the stick of Goldman knotted the game at 3-3 entering the fifth.
  • After both teams were retired in order in the fifth, the game shifted to the sixth still tied. Kohan got Morgan Bobrowski to popout in the leadoff spot, before two singles and a double reulted in two coming in for a 5-3 advantage.
  • Dickinson tried to mount a two-out rally in the last of the sixth with base hits from Blanker and McMahon, but a strikeout of Goldman ended the frame. Then in the seventh, Kaylie Renner notched a two-out single to right. Unfortunately, for DC though Bergara bared down and got a strikeout of Laia Gwathmey to end the game.
