CARLISLE, Pa. - The 18th-ranked Dickinson men's lacrosse got a combined six goals from the duo of
Landen Hyatt and
Joey Wood along with 13 stops from goalie
Rocco Bognet to remain flawless in Centennial Conference play with an 11-9 win over the 13th-ranked Garnet of Swarthmore College in front of a sun-splashed raucous crowd at Biddle Field on Saturday afternoon.
- Dickinson took advantage of any early turnover from the visitors as Ethan Ferrant popped the ball free from Michael Hardiman leading to Parker Polgar finding Luke Devlin for the finish past Drew Tyson at the 1:49 mark.
- Just over a minute later it became 2-0 when a stop by Bognet on Emmett Harris allowed Polgar to connect with Wood for his first of the day.
- Tyson would make stops against Tommy Baldini, Mac Childs and Hyatt which gave Hardiman the opportunity to put the Garnet on the board at 2-1 with 9:45 to go.Â
- The rest of the period was all about the goalies as the two combined for seven stops with Bognet notching five of them, including one in the final minute to leave the score 2-1 entering the second.
- For the second consecutive quarter an early turnover caused by Ferrant led to a Devils goal with Owen Porter linking up with Hyatt for the 3-1 edge with just over two minutes gone.
- Dickinson continued to first away with Ethan Gess, Ramsey Huggins, Childs and Devlin combining to hit two posts and force Tyson into one save as the game entered the final seven minutes.
- After Bognet jumped in the passing lane of Harris, Wood would strike for the second time at the 9:06 mark making it 4-1.
- Swarthmore headed into the halftime break claiming some momentum as Hardiman put a shot beyond the reach of Bognet with just 16-seconds to play bringing the score to 4-2.Â
- The opening two minutes saw each team pick up an unassisted marker with Childs striking for the Red and White, while Ryder Maston connected for Swarthmore allowing DC to hold onto the two-goal cushion at 5-3.
- Off the ensuing faceoff win by Ben Trucksess he would sprint down the field and find a waiting Hyatt for a rip past Tyson to double up the Devils lead 6-3 with 12:55 left.
- The Garnet answered back with a two-goal run courtesy of Owen Hoffman and Rex Mabbs to close within 6-5 as six minutes had elapsed from the clock.
- Another Trucksess faceoff win led to four straight shots for the hosts as Luke Whalen, Hyatt and Trucksess combined to hit a post and force a save, while Huggins buried the ball past Tyson (7-5).
- Swarthmore recorded six of the final eight shots of the period with Bognet making four stops and allowing one goal thanks to Hoffman making the score 7-6 DC with a quarter to go.
- The Dickinson defense would be the reason for two quick goals for the Red and White as Ferrant forced a turnover resulting in a tally from Gess, before Capp Reynolds freed the ball from Jack McHenry allowing for Childs to find Hyatt for a 9-6 lead at the 1:44 mark.
- After Hoffman pulled the guests to within 9-7, a giveawy by the Garnet set the stage for Evan Karetsos to track down a free ball and get it ahead to Porter who in turn found Hyatt for his fourth (10-7).
- Over the next five minutes the teams combined for seven shots with each keeper notching one stop to keep it at 10-7 inside of the final five minutes.
- Swarthmore picked up two of the final three goals with Whalen cashing in on an empty net with the Garnet in a 10-man ride to set the 11-9 final.
