CARLISLE, Pa. – For the second straight season the Dickinson baseball team will have a tough road to go in pursuit of their first Centennial Conference Championship as they dropped their first game of the double-elimination bracket by a score of 5-3 on Wednesday afternoon at MacPhail Field.
Records: McDaniel – 23-13 | Dickinson – 26-11
Time of Game: 2:26
Pitching Decision: W – Ryan Martino (5-0) | L –
Koll Peichel (6-2) | S – Conor Henderson (7)
Inside the Game
The visitors got on the board in the top of the first as Shane Daly began the day with a walk against Peichel. He would steal second and then move up to third on a flyout to left before crossing home on a single by Ben Davis. After a quiet second, McDaniel grabbed four runs on three hits during the top of the third to take a 5-0 advantage into the last of the third. Dickinson would try to mount a two-out rally as both
Christian Kim and
Kenny Tagliareni were hit by a pitch to have two on, but
Luke Gartland flew out to right for the last out. The Devils relief unit of
Austin Buzza and
Charlie Bien did a good job to keep McDaniel at-bay and give their offense a chance to find their rhythm. Then, in the bottom of the sixth that is what the home side did as Tagliareni ledoff with a single, before the next two batters were retired by reliever Ryan Martino. However, a double by
Matt Torres and single for
Kaden Sigmon resulted in two scoring to cut the deficit down to 5-2 entering the seventh.
Joey Sangiuolo entered the fray for the top of the seventh and faced bases-loaded with two away, before getting Tyler Yohn to bounce out to short. James Cosgrove went to the hill in the bottom-half and setdown the first two men, prior to allowing hits to
Dylan Posencheg and Tagliareni and issuing a walk to Gartland filling the cushions. He then uncorked a wild pitch to score one, before walking
Ryan Thompson to reload the bases for Torres. Henderson would then take over on the mound and get a fielder's choice from Torres to stall the rally. Dickinson puts three men on during the eighth, but a groundout prevented anyone from scoring. They were then turned away one-two-three in the ninth to end the game.

Peichel suffered the loss going 2.1 frames allowing three hits and five runs (four earned) on four strikeouts and three walks. Buzza went the following 2.2 giving up just one hit, while Bien added one inning allowing two hits but no runs. Sangiuolo finished the game with three solid innings issuing no hits.
