Devils Sweep Diplomats to Continue Climb Up the Standings

LANCASTER, Pa. - The Dickinson softball team continued their mid-season resurgence on Tuesday afternoon with a Centennial Conference doubleheader sweep on the road at Franklin & Marshall College by posting wins of 1-0 and 5-4 at the Diplomat Softball Field.

Game One - DEVILS 1, Diplomats 0
Record - Franklin & Marshall (8-15, 0-4 CC) | Dickinson (6-13, 3-2 CC)
Time of Game - 1:34
Pitching Decision - W - Abby Kohan (3-4) | L - Charlotte Dwyer (0-3)

Inside the Game
Both teams could not get anything going in the first as the Devils were setdown in order, while Kohan had one runner reach but struck out the side. Then, in the top of the second with one down Kohan walked, Kaylie Renner singled and Emma Glosson earned a free pass to fill the pillows now with two away. That sent Emma Varella to the dish and she used a very discerning eye to work a bases-loaded walk to force in a run. Jessie Sandusky followed with a flyout to left retiring the side. Kohan was outstanding in the circle over the next three innings setting down the Diplomats twice in order and allowing just one hit on a single for Sophia Noriega. Dickinson tried to extend their lead during the top of the sixth as Renner walked and Erin McMahon singled to right putting two one with one gone. However, Glosson and Varella flied out and struck out respectively to end the threat. The Red and White then used a single for Sandusky as well as walks to Eden Blanker and Zoe Kleeblatt to load the bags for Kohan. Unfortunately, she bounced into an inning-ending 3-2-4 double-play to prevent any damage in the seventh. The home side had a chance to either tie or win the game in the home-half when a single, walk and groundout put two in scoring position. Kohan than bared down on the rubber and got both Steinberg and Matusiak to strikeout ending the game.

Devils Circle Report
Kohan went the distance for the Devils tossing seven innings allowing just two hits and fanning ten batters, while walking just one.

Game Two - DEVILS 5, Diplomats 4
Records - Franklin & Marshall (8-16, 0-5 CC) | Dickinson (7-13, 4-2 CC)
Time of Game - 1:47
Pitching Decision - W - Kaylie Renner (2-4) | L - Aliza Sheflin (3-4)

Inside the Game
After the Devils were retired in the top of first, two walks and an RBI single to left by Noriega made it 1-0 still with two on base. Then, Renner got Martin to ground into a double-play and Clement flyout to left for the final out. Dickinson answered back with two in the top of the second as singles for Kleeblatt and Kohan was followed by Renner reaching on an error allowing one to come home. McMahon then provided a sacrifice fly to center giving DC a 2-1 lead going to the bottom-half. However, Renner was not able to post a shutdown frame as a walk, error and sac bunt had two in scoring position with one down for Natalia Garza. She reached safely on a fielder's choice letting the tying run cross, before a popout and groundout ended the rally. The following inning Sandusky began things with a walk and then went to second on a sac bunt. She was then driven in by an infield single for Kleeblatt to take a 3-2 edge to the fourth. That frame saw the Red and White get a two-bagger from McMahon along with a pair of walks to Lauren Routzahn and Jane Lloyd to set the stage for a wild pitch by Shefflin to let McMahon come home for a 4-2 advantage. An inning later a double by Kleeblatt came around on a single off the stick of Renner stretching the gap to three (5-2) entering the last of the fifth. That was when F&M collected two more runs thanks to a triple, RBI double by Noriega and RBI groundout from Clement trimming it down to just one (5-4). McMahon then took over in the circle for Renner in the bottom of the sixth and put away the Diplomats in both the sixth and seventh to nail down the save.

Devils Circle Report
Renner started the game and earned the win throwing five innings allowing five hits and four runs (three earned) with no strikeouts. McMahon secured the save going the final two frames and not giving up a single hit.
