WESTMINSTER, Md. - The Dickinson baseball team was able to dig out of an early 5-0 hole to tie the game at 5-5 after three. However, it would not be enough as the host McDaniel College Green Terror scored six of the final seven runs to claim an 11-6 Centennial Conference win at Preston Field.
Time of Game: 2:30
Pitching Decision: W - Ryan Kelly (1-0) | L -
Ben Myers (1-3)
Inside the Game
Following a quiet top of the first for the Red and White against Brady Bailey, McDaniel would post five runs during the home-half of the frame. With two gone and a man on second, three consecutive singles and a walk resulted in two in and still two on for Patrick Kelly. He would deliver a three-run double to left off of Myers to make it 5-0, before he was thrown out trying to stretch the play into a triple. After each team went down in order during the second, Dickinson went to work in the top of the third versus new pitcher Dominic DiBlasi. A single by
Christian Kim, walk to
Nathan Bowman, fielder's choice for
Kenny Tagliareni and free pass worked by
Dylan Posencheg filled the bags with one away. That brought
Ryan Thompson to the dish and he picked up a hard-earned RBI by being hit by a pitch, before a walk to
Kaden Sigmon plated the second of the frame and kept things loaded for
Matt Torres. He would face the second pitcher of the inning as Matt Mondrone took to the hill and gave up a bases-loaded double to left driving in three more to knot the game at 5-5. Unfortunately, two batters later
Luke Gartland would bounce into an inning-ending double-play.Â
The game stayed 5-5 into the last of the fifth when two singles allowed the Green Terror to make it 6-5. Jake Smith extended the advantage to 7-5 with a two-bagger to right.
Nathan Weisoly then entered the fray for the Devils and got Brady Goyne to watch strike three for the final out. Following another "one-two-three"inning for Dickinson offensively, an error and a walk put two guys one prior to an RBI knock for Ben Davis pushing the gap to 9-5. Later in the frame the second miscue for DC allowed the tenth run of the game to cross for the 10-5 lead entering the seventh. Matt Speakman went to the hill for McDaniel and gave up a two-out triple to Posencheg, before a single to center for Thompson cut it down to 10-6. The Green Terror would get that run back in the home-half of the eighth as a leadoff walk came around to score on a single for Shea McKenna off reliever
Evan Connery to grab an 11-6 edge entering the ninth. Dickinson would give themselves a chance as a single for Gartland, Kim hit by a pitch and free pass to Posencheg filled the pillows with two gone. Unfortunately, Thompson struck out swinging against Conor Henderson to end the game.
