Devils Blow Fords Out of Carlisle in Conference DH

CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson softball team got solid pitching performances from the trio of Abby Kohan, Erin McMahon and Kaylie Renner as well as multi-RBI games out of Eden Blanker, Zoe Kleeblatt and Renner en route to a big conference doubleheader sweep of the visiting Haverford College Fords on Saturday afternoon at Dickinson Park. The Red and White took game one 4-3, before posting a 9-2 rout in game two.

Game One (DEVILS 4, Fords 3)
Records: Haverford - 7-16-1, 1-5-1 CC | Dickinson - 8-14, 5-2 CC
Time of Game: 1:48
Pitching Decision: W - Abby Kohan (4-4) | L - Alexa Finkele (1-4)

Inside the Game
After a scoreless first, the visitors got on the board in the second as a leadoff single for Jocelyn Leal came around to score two batters later on a double for Lauren Martin. Kohan then recorded a strikeout and popup to end the inning. Things stayed at 1-0 entering the last of third when a single for Blanker and walk to Kleeblatt was followed by a sacrifice bunt for Kohan trying to help herself out. That brought Renner to the dish and she smoked a two-run single through the right-side of the infield giving the hosts a 2-1 edge entering the fourth. Two lineouts and a groundout allowed for Kohan to post a one-two-three top of the fourth sending things to the home-half. That would be when Finkele took over in the circle for starter Rachel McQueen and gave up a leadoff knock to Jessie Sandusky. Blanker flew out to right for the second out of the frame, fortunately, for Dickinson an error committed on the play allowed Sandusky to hustle home all the way from second for a 3-1 lead going to the fifth. In that inning a pair of DC errors, a hit batter, wild pitch and one hit resulted in the Fords bringing home two to level the game at 3-3. The game remained locked up until the bottom-half of the sixth when Sandusky reached on an error and went to second of a sac bunt for Jane Lloyd. Two batters later Kleeblatt produced a little two-out thunder with a two-bagger to left-center driving in Sandusky to give the Red and White a 4-3 advantage heading to the final frame. Kohan went back to the circle trying to finish off the complete game. Despite the first two batters reaching two flyouts and a groundout ended the game in the Devils favor.

Devils Circle Report
Kohan earned the victory going the full seven innings allowing six hits and three runs (one earned) to go along with a walk and five strikeouts.

Game Two (DEVILS 9, Fords 2)
Records: Haverford - 7-17-1, 1-6-1 CC | Dickinson - 9-14, 6-2 CC
Time of Game: 1:55
Pitching Decision: W - Erin McMahon (3-2) | L - Rachel McQueen (2-9)

Inside the Game
Walks to Lloyd and Kleeblatt set the stage for an RBI single for Kohan to make it 1-0. A free pass drawn by Renner loaded the cushions with two down when McMahon beat out an infield single to drive in the second of the frame for a 2-0 lead through one. McMahon was able to pitch around two runners during the top-half, before Dickinson went back to work in the home-half. A leadoff walk to Emma Varella came all the way around to score thanks to a pair of groundouts and an RBI single by Blanker. After Kleeblatt singled the bags were re-loaded for Renner. She worked out a walk to plate run number four, before McMahon aided her own cause with a two-run single up the box making it 6-0 with two in the books. The Red and White were not done however, as a free pass to Varella and single for Lloyd have two on for Blanker. She stepped up and ripped an RBI double down the line in right, which was followed immediately by a two-run two-bagger off the stick of Kleeblatt extending the gap to 9-0 heading to the fourth. The Fords finally got on the board during the top-half when with one gone three straight hits resulted in two coming home cutting it down to 9-2. The top of the fifth saw Renner take over in the circle for McMahon and she finished off the remainder of the game not letting the Fords get a runner further than second over the final three innings as a lineout by Leal ended the game in a 9-2 Devils win.

Devils Circle Report
