CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson softball team found themselves staring at large deficits to begin both games of their Centennial Conference doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon against the visiting Gettysburg College Bullets. Fortunately, for the Red and White they were able to overcome a 5-0 hole in game one for a 6-5 win, before not being able to rally from 8-0 down in game two falling 12-5 at Dickinson Park.

Inside the Game
Gettysburg got to Dickinson starter
Abby Kohan in the first as a walk and two singles led to the visitors taking a 1-0 lead. The Devils would get two on base in the home-half, but were not able to score. Then, in the second, the Bullets went up 2-0 when with two away a catcher's interference call put one on, before a single and fielder's choice let the runner cross. Gettysburg extended the margin to 5-0 over the next two innings when in the fourth two doubles and a single led to two crossing home. In the fourth it became 5-0 as Renner took over in the circle for Kohan and allowed a walk along with a pair of singles. However, the Red and White began their comeback push during the last of the fourth when with two away
Emma Glosson singled and Laia Gwathmey ripped a double to right-center placing two in scoring position for
Jessie Sandusky. She would legout an infield single to short, which allowed Glosson in from third and Gwathmey who was hustling all the way from second raced home as well cutting the deficit to 5-2 through four.Â
After Renner setdown the Bullets offense one-two-three in the fifth,
Eden Blanker ledoff the home-half by being plunked by a pitch from starter Paige Forry and Kohan came up with a one-out single to have two on for Renner. She would be the first to face Hughes as she was brought to the circle and drew a walk to load the pillows.
Erin McMahon came up with a two-run single up the box to make it 5-4. After Glosson was hit by a pitch to re-load the bags, Gwathmey singled to right-center scoring a pair for the 6-5 edge. From there it was all about Renner as she retired six of the final seven batters she faced to end the game.
Devils Circle Report
Kohan began the game tossing the first three innings allowing six hits and four runs (three earned), while walking and striking out one each. Renner earned the victory thanks to a strong four frames and three-hit one-run relief with no strikeouts and a walk.

Inside the Game
The Bullets were all over things from the word go as the first five batters reached leading to three runs coming home against McMahon and forcing Renner back to the circle. She recorded three consecutive groundouts, but one more run would cross for a 4-0 lead. Gettysburg added four more during the second thanks to four singles and triple from Lauren O'Leary to make it 8-0 through one-and-a-half. Dickinson had a response in the bottom-half as base hits from Kohan and Renner coupled with a walk to McMahon loaded the bases with one gone for Gwathmey. She stepped in and ripped a two-run two-bagger to right-center. That was followed by an RBI groundout by
Jessie Sandusky to cut it down to 8-3 entering the third. The game stayed that way until the last of the fourth when knocks for McMahon, Sandusky and
Jane Lloyd filled the pillows for Blanker who delivered a two-run single to center trimming the gap to just three (8-5). Unfortunately, for Dickinson the Bullets answered with two during the fifth against new pitcher
Beth Belanger as a walk and two errors allowed the runs to come in without the need of a base hit. Three singles and a groundout in the top of the seventh let two more players score for Gettysburg to grab a 12-5 advantage heading to last call time for the Devils. Wright recorded two straight flyouts, before giving up a walk to pinch-hitter
Lauren Routzahn. However, McMahon flew out to left for the final out of the game.
Devils Circle Report
McMahon did not record an out giving up three hits and four runs as well as two walks. Renner went two innings allowing five hits and four runs with no walks or strikeouts. Belanger lasted the remaining five frames surrendering four hits and four runs (two earned) with a pair of walks and a strikeout.
