Inside the Game
The home side struck first against starter
Ben Myers with two singles in the last of the first. However, Dickinson had the answer during the top of the second as
Matt Torres began things with a double to left, before three batters later a wild pitch thrown by MC pitcher Brendan Hughes to let Torres race home from third to tie the score. Then, an inning later with one away doubles for both
Kenny Tagliareni and
Ryan Thompson gave the Devils a 2-1 edge. Following a groundout by
Dylan Posencheg,
Kaden Sigmon roped a single through the right side to make it 3-1 entering the last of the frame. Unfortunately, the home side would respond with two of their own courtesy of two doubles and a pair of singles leaving the game at 3-3 as it went to the fourth.
The Red and White would pick up solo runs in both the fourth and fifth to regain a two-run cushion. First, with two gone in the fourth,
Luke Gartland singled to center, before coming home to score on a two-bagger from
Christian Kim. An inning later it became 5-3 thanks to more two-out offense as knocks by Sigmon and Torres resulted in Thompson crossing the plate after reaching on a fielder's choice earlier. After another one-two-three frame put up by Myers in the fifth, Dickinson found the board again when a Gartland leadoff single was plated on a sacrifice fly to left off the stick of Tagliareni leaving the score at 6-3 going to the last of the sixth. The Devils would use two pitchers in that frame as
Nathan Weisoly replaced Myers to start, but hit the first two batters. That led to
Brian Riley coming in from the pen and giving up two runs on a wild pitch and RBI groundout for Mason Mehling making it 6-5 going to the seventh. The home-half of that inning saw the Mules draw even on a walk, single and RBI double for Nick Whelan. Dickinson had the answer the ensuing frame as a Kim walk and Tagliareni hit by pitch had two on with one out. A flyout moved Kim to third, prior to a wild pitch letting him score. A batter later another wild pitch plated Tagliareni giving DC an 8-6 edge. Once again the hosts had an answer as a leadoff single was driven in when Ryan Riccio delivered a two-run homer to left knotting the score (8-8). The game stayed like that all the way until the eleventh when a walk to Thompson and bunt singles for both Sigmon and Torres coupled with an MC error led to two scoring.
Josh Markley pushed it out to 11-8 with a sac fly to center driving in Torres. Sangiuolo capped off an outstanding three innings of relief by setting down the home side one-two-three in the bottom-half to end the game.
