Devils Go Down to the Wire to Secure CC Win Over Owls

BRYN MAWR, Pa. - The Dickinson women's tennis team and host Bryn Mawr College Owls were locked in a tight Centennial Conference battle all Saturday afternoon at the BMC Tennis Courts. Ultimately, it would be the Red and White who got the last laugh as Anabelle Armendarez claimed the deciding win at six singles to pick up the 5-4 win.

Doubles (DEVILS 2-1)
The first match to finish featured the top pair of Alisa Steele and Bonnie Thomas were knocked off 8-2 by Sophie Fenster and Fernanda Hurtado. However, the other two matches went the way of the Devils as both Jenna Crain and Dana Kleinman (2nd) along with Maddie Lindquist and Molly Michel (3rd) each claimed 8-6 victories.

Singles (Tied 3-3)
The Owls would draw level in the match at the fifth spot when Hurtado took down Kleinman 6-2, 6-1. Dickinson then reclaimed the advantage thanks to Crain knocking off Fenster 6-3, 6-1. Steele made it 4-2 by allowing just two games to Wynn Bryant going 6-2, 6-0 at the second slot. Bryn Mawr did not go quietly however, with Lowrey West and Kelli Eng holding off solid efforts from Thomas (3rd - 7-5, 6-3) and Michel (4th - 7-6, 6-2) respectively. That knotted the team scores at 4-4 with one match left which would be sixth singles. A tightly contested first set between Armendarez and Kelly Cole was decided in a tiebreak with the Devils earning the 7-5 win. She then took command the rest of the match crusing in the second to a 6-2 win giving the Red and White the match.

The First Serve
Dickinson (9-4, 3-2 Centennial) return to action on Wednesday afternoon at 4pm when they make the short trip to Lancaster for a conference battle with the Diplomats of Franklin & Marshall College.
