CARLISLE, Pa. - Behind a seven-goal outburst in the first quarter and a solid first career start in cage for first-year
Rocco Bognet, the fifth-ranked Dickinson men's lacrosse team had too much for the visiting McDaniel College Green Terror to overcome as they secured a 16-5 Centennial Conference win at Biddle Field on Wednesday night.
Dickinson was off and running just 55-seconds in as
Sascha Gannon beat goalie Brighton Lorber. The Red and White continued to roll early on with both
Liam Carney and
Griffin Moore adding unassisted markers to push it out to 3-0 with 3:28 off the clock. Following two stops by Lorber on
Sam Campbell and Gannon, McDaniel went back down the field and gave the rock away resulting in a goal for
Capp Reynolds for a 4-0 advantage. The visitors finally tested Bognet at the 6:11 mark when Jason Fritz was denied by the keeper allowing the Devils to go back on the attack with
Owen Porter and Carney hitting the crossbar, before Gannon found the back of the net again (5-0). Over the next four minutes the home side continued to pound away at the McDaniel cage firing eight shots resulting in three more stops by Lorber as well as goals from
Luke Whalen (
Griffin Moore assist) and
Ben Tomick (
Skyler Schluter assist) to take a 7-0 lead into the second as during that frame DC held a 22-3 advantage in shots.Â
The Green Terror finally solved the "Wall of Bognet" with 1:36 gone when Fritz found paydirt. Lorber then turned aside the pair of
Matt Thurston and Campbell, allowing for Carter Youtz to cut it down to 7-2 at the halfway point of the period. Bognet settled himself in to make two more saves to keep the gap at five, until
Mac Childs forced a stop out of Lorber prior to Schluter hitting Whalen for the finish. Just over a minute later
Jack Deady knocked the ball free from AJ Johnson leading to Thurston setting up Schluter for the ninth of the night. Dickinson stretched the lead to 10-2 with 2:16 to go as Porter found
Cullen Mulhern for a man-up strike with Luke Patterson serving a 30-second offside call. The home side was not done however as Bognet stoned Fritz once again giving Gannon a chance to get the ball ahead to Carney for the tally and the 11-2 halftime lead.Â
An early stop by Lorber on Campbell appeared to give McDaniel the opportunity to go back on the offensive, but
Ethan Ackerman poked the ball away from Aidan Skelly leading to Moore giving a great feed to Tomick for his second and the ten-goal margin. The two sides then shared the next eight shots with both keepers notching two more saves, leading to Schluter putting the rock in the stick of
Josh Smith for the rip at cage and the goal making it 13-2 with 5:05 left. A giveaway by Dickinson late in the frame allowed the Green Terror to dent the board once again thanks to Fritz closing to within 13-3 through 45-minutes.Â
To begin the fourth quarter
Ben Tompkins took over for Bognet between the pipes and he immediately watched
Colin Williams, Childs, Moore and Smith let shots fly at goal over the first five minutes but none of them found the net. Dickinson would then ride the momentum of two Tompkins saves to a pair of goals from
Landen Hyatt (
Luke Devlin and
Charlie Baughan assist each) making the lead 15-3 with 6:26 left. A turnover by DC led to a shot for Zach Micklos that was stopped setting the stage for
Jack Schutte to bury the rock for a 16-3 advantage. Following the goal
Caulley Bellistri went in goal for the Devils and unfortunately conceded two goals setting the 16-5 result.
