CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson women's tennis team kicked off the 2024 spring slate on Thursday afternoon with the tight 5-4 loss to the visiting Albright College Lions at the Hays Tennis Courts.
Doubles (Lions 2-1)
Dickinson found themselves down early 2-0 as the first pair of
Alisa Steele and
Bonnie Thomas along with the third duo of
Maddie Lindquist and
Katharine van Kesteren were tripped up by their opponents by scores of 4-8 and 2-8. However, the group of
Sara Jaklitsch and
Dana Kleinman knocked off Elicia Aponte and Alizabeth Zarnofsky (8-6).
Singles (Tied 3-3)
After
Jenna Crain and
Molly Michel were each tripped up in three sets at the first and fourth spots respectively. The next match to come to a finish was the battle between Thomas and Aponte at third singles where the two combatants traded sets, before Thomas collected a 10-5 win in the decisive super tiebreaker. Dickinson then bagged their second win of singles at two as Steele earned another 10-5 third set super tiebreaker over Michelle Timothy. The Red and White drew even in the match at 4-4 thanks to
Anabelle Armendarez (6th) straight set win against Saba Soroush. Unfortunately, it would be the Lions able to claw their way to the match win at the deciding fifth singles Alaina Smith edging out Kleinman 10-5 in the fifth super tiebreak of the day.
Next on the Court
Dickinson (2-1) will now head to Hilton Head, S.C. over Spring Break to continue their season. The Red and White will kickoff their slate on Sunday morning at 11am when they battle Stevenson University.
