Inside the Game
Dickinson starter
Ethan Hamilton hit some issues during the top of the first as three singles allowed a knock for Evan Wagaman to make it 1-0, before a stolen base left two on in scoring position for Dylan Hurst who produced an RBI groundout. The bottom-half of the frame saw
Dylan Posencheg single, but be stranded on the bases. The Falcons pushed it to 3-0 during the second when with one down Luke Ott tripled and Isaiah Parido collected a sacrifice fly to center. The game stayed that way until the last of the third when a single for
Luke Gartland came around to score a batter later as
Kenny Tagliareni smacked a two-bagger to right cutting it down to 3-1. However, groundouts by
Kaden Sigmon and
Matt Torres along with a strikeout of Posencheg wrapped up the inning. Dickinson would continue to chip away an inning later as a fielder's choice for
Josh Markley, brought
Chase Weller to the dish who ripped a double to center cutting it down to 3-2. Following a groundout from
Christian Kim, Gartland continued his solid afternoon with an RBI single right back up the box to tie things up at 3-3. The forced Chris Beatty to be removed from the game and replaced by Jadyn Martin. He was rudely greeted with an RBI hit from Tagliareni to give Dickinson their first lead 4-3 through four. Messiah responded by tying the game in the top of the fifth when Nick Moyer was plunked by Hamilton bringing Riley to the hill. He started his appearance strong with a strikeout, but a double from Joshua Ammons made it 4-4 with four-and-a-half in the books.
The score stayed tied at 4-4 into the last of the seventh as Martin and Riley were dominant on the mound for their respective sides. To begin that part of the inning, Zercher came in from the bullpen to replace Martin who was strong in relief of Beatty. With one gone, a single by Tagliareni and free pass to Posencheg had two on for Sigmon. He notched a single to left-center, but instead of having the bags full Tagliareni was thrown out attempting to reach home leaving men at second and third. After, Torres was hit by a pitch, Thompson worked a bases-loaded walk to score one. Markley then pounded a two-run single to left driving across two more stretching the lead to 7-4 through seven. Messiah pulled one back off of DC reliever
Joey Sangiuolo when a walk to Kyler Parks was followed by an RBI double for Dylan Beard. Sangiuolo wrapped up the game during the top of the ninth with a strikeout, flyout and popout to finish off the 7-5 win.
