CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson football team was back in action on Saturday afternoon hoping to continue their climb up the Centennial Conference standings with a visit to Muhlenberg College. Unfortunately, for the Red and White the Mules used a 21-point second quarter to build up a lead too large for the Devils to overcome as they fell 49-20 at Scotty Wood Stadium.
- Following the Devils opening drive that did not result in any points, Muhlenberg went to work on their first chance of the game. A strong combination of Amari Dunn runs and Joe Repetti passes ultimately put the Mules in the endzone when Repetti hit John Runfolo for a a four-yard strike (Connor Fenstermaker kick).
- Things started out well for the Devils on their next possession as Presley Egbers found Bobby Markey for 16 and Kellen Boyer for six, while runs for Diante Ball and Dane Sorenson had DC on the MC44. Unfortunately, that was where the drive stalled with Egbers being picked off by Peyton Elliott.Â
- James Basilii, Cole Catalano, Julien Devlin, Sam Orzolek and Alex Sulin all recorded tackles on the ensuing Mules drive to force a three-and-out ending the period.
- The home side pushed the lead to 14-0 with their first march of the frame as the arm of Repetti and ground game for Matthew Manning setting the stage for Repetti to scamper home from four yards out (Fenstermaker kick).
- Dickinson however, had an answer on their next possession as a pass to Rocco DiRico put the ball on the DC37. Three consecutive carries for Ball and a single for Sorenson pushed the rock to the MC37. That was when Egbers would connect with Markey for a 37-yard TD strike (Kieran O'Neill kick).
- Muhlenberg continued using a balanced attack to go 12 plays and 75 yards using up nearly six minutes of clock, before Manning ran the ball into the endzone from three yards away (Fenstermaker kick).
- After the ensuing Red Devils drive ended with Egbers being picked off, the Mules started on their own 38. Repetti's arm would be the reason that the hosts took a 28-7 advantage as he completed four passes on the drive concluding with Runfolo hauling in an 11-yard TD inside the final ten seconds (Fenstermaker kick).
- Four rushes by Dunn helped the Mules to get into DC territory down to 18-yardline, before Repetti once again found Runfolo for a touchdown of 18 yards making it 35-7 (Fenstermaker kick).
- Two receptions by DiRico and one for Sorenson had the Red and White looking at third-and-three at their own 29. Unfortunately, an incompletion on third down forced O'Neill to send away a punt forcing MC to begin at the seven.
- Muhlenberg would go three-and-out giving the ball back to the Devils in good shape at the MC42. However, the Dickinson drive lasted just one play as Egbers was intercepted by Owen Kovacs who returned it 75 yards to the house extending the gap to 42-7 throught three (Fenstermaker kick).
- Two minutes into the period the Red and White began at their own 23. Egbers would connect with Leon Friebel, Markey and Sorenson to get down to the MC26. Then, on fourth-and-four Egbers linked up with Markey for a 26-yard TD capping a ten-play march (O'Neill kick).
- The Mules would then go on a six-play, 70 yard, run only drive that ended with Dunn taking it in from 27 yards out pushing the lead to 49-14 (Nick D'Amico kick).
- Egbers found Braden White for eight yards, Mathias Young for 25 and DiRico for 14 more to advance to the MC30. Sorenson then had receptions of seven and 16, before taking a handoff from Egbers two yards to paydirt setting the 49-20 final (Two Point failed).Â
