Devils Scare Off Green Terror for Tenth Consecutive Win

WESTMINSTER, Md. - The Dickinson women's basketball team placed four players in double-figures, including getting a 14-point, 10-rebound double-double from senior Lindsey Hollenshead to secure their tenth straight win with a 60-46 Centennial Conference win over McDaniel College at the Gill Center on Wednesday night.

The two sides traded the opening four points as Abby John and Hollenshead tallied for Dickinson, while Raegan Lenz and Tey McConnaha hit the bottom of the net for the hosts. The Red and White then dropped the next nine points thanks to a three each from Caitlin Blackman, Jenna Weinstein and Hollenshead to open up a 13-4 edge with less than minute to go. The visitors would not be done however as Clair Marion hit Clare Cronley to complete the 11-0 run over the final 5:26 of the period to take a 15-4 lead through one as McDaniel missed their final 11 chances of the frame.

After struggling in the opening period the home side came out firing to start the second as a triple by Lil Overcash started a 7-2 run with Marion supplying the lone DC bucket to make it 17-11 with 4:07 gone. The Devils would claim the next three points with Cronley splitting two at the charity stripe and John picking up her second layup, before two on the line for McConnaha trimmed it down to 20-13. Hollenshead racked up the next five for the Red and White converting a layup and hitting from deep pushing the margin to double-digits 25-15 with just 41-seconds left. McDaniel added one more bucket to set the halftime score at 25-17 thanks to Ally Mathias.

Baskets from Victoria Zerbe and John helped DC open up the margin to 29-17 just over a minute into the third. The Green Terror tallied four of the next eight with John picking up a pair of layups off assists from Hollenshead to make it 33-21 at the 6:04 mark of the frame. Dickinson continued to add onto their advantage with a 7-2 push on buckets by Molly Heron, Blackman and Weinstein to take a sizable 40-23 lead into the final period.

McConnaha began the fourth with back-to-back jumpers, but then a layup for Hollenshead along with a triple by Marion stretched the margin to 45-27 just two minutes in. Dickinson kept up the pressure on the home team as Hollenshead, Marion and Weinstein scored nine of the ensuing 16 points to make it 54-33 at the halfway point of the frame. McDaniel attempted to hang tough though with Lily Hines, Jordan McLean and McConnaha embarking on a 10-1 charge to close within 55-43 with 2:08 remaining. However, the trio of Ella Smith, Blackman and Weinstein would put things away scoring five of the final eight points to set the 60-46 final.
