CARLISLE, Pa. - For the fourth time this season it was "close but no cigar" for the Dickinson women's tennis team as they gave it all they had against the visiting Gettysburg College on Tuesday afternoon, but ultimately came up just short in a 5-4 Centennial Conference loss at the Hays Tennis Courts.
Doubles (Devils 2-1)
The Red and White got out to the fast start as the third pair of
Dana Kleinman and
Molly Michel took down Shoshi Dondes and Catherine Haley by a score of 8-1. Dickinson claimed their second victory at number one spot as
Izzy Desjardins and
Martine Fierro defeated Andrea Brazyte and Gillian Rozenfeld, 8-5.  The team of
Ariana Goitz and
Alisa Steele were edged out by Sarah Guistwite and Avery Palandjian by the same 5-8 margin.Â
Singles (Bullets 4-2)
Gettysburg evened the match at three when Palandjian limited Steele to just five total games winning 3-6, 2-6. The visitors then grabbed the lead in the fourth spot where Rozenfeld downed
Anabelle Armendarez, 0-6, 4-6. Wins from Ellie Brignati over Kleinman (4-6, 1-6) and Alex Rieg against Desjardins (3-6, 3-6) were enough to secure the necessary five points. However, Dickinson did not go quietly as Fierro traded the opening two sets with Brazyte, before edging her out 6-4, 3-6, 7-6. Goitz at number two fell behind one set to Guistwite (2-6), but overcame that to win the next two 6-3 and 6-4.
Next on the Court
Dickinson (4-5, 0-2 Centennial) will return to non-conference action on Friday afternoon when they welcome Wilkes University to the Hays Tennis Courts at 3:30 pm. Â
