CARLISLE, Pa. -Â The Dickinson women's basketball put three players in double-figures led by a game-high 14 from
Mia Kolb as her and the rest of her Red Devil teammates knocked off the visiting Franklin and Marshall College 62-42 on Wednesday night in conference action at the Kline Center. With the win and a win by Gettysburg, Dickinson has secured the number-three seed in next week's Centennial Conference Tournament and will host a first-round game on Tuesday night.
The two sides traded the first eight points of the game with Catilin Blackman and Kolb providing the offense for DC inside the first four minutes. After another Blackman jumper, Kolb's twin sister Natalie Kolb drilled a three for the Diplomats to give F&M the slim 7-6 edge, before
Clair Marion had a response from deep (9-7). Two free throws each from
Mia Chapman and
Lindsey Hollenshead coupled with a Marion layup gave the Red and White six of the next eight to make it 15-9 with 2:23 left. The Diplomats tallied the next five, prior to buckets by
Kate Montgomery and Kolb giving DC a 19-16 advantage through one.
Victoria Zerbe and Montgomery each found the bottom of the net within the opening two minutes of the second extending the margin to 23-16. The well then dried up for both sides for the next three minutes, before Jaclyn Feit, Quinn Galligan, Lizzie Neville and Lauren Rusas went on an 8-2 push to cut the deficit to one (25-24) with 2:07 left. Dickinson ended the half in a big way though as Hollenshead, Kolb and Marion scored the final nine points for the 34-24 lead at the break.
A layup by Feit began the scoring in the third, before Hollenshead, Kolb, Marion and Montgomery went on a 9-0 romp of their own for the 43-26 advantage with over half the period gone. Three points each from N. Kolb and Rusas along with a jumper for Leila Walton brought the Diplomats to within 46-34 with 9:23 off the clock.
Jenna Weinstein would add a bucket on the Devils final possession to open it up to 48-34 after 30 minutes.
Once again it would be Dickinson that embarked on an early run as contributions from Hollenshead, Kolb and Montgomery resulted in an 8-2 charge and a 56-36 lead with over four minutes gone. After five straight by N. Kolb, two layups from M. Kolb and a fastbreak layup by
Abby John set the 62-42 final.
