Box Score (Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson football team had a strong start, but #8-ranked Muhlenberg gained some momentum and went on to post a 38-9 win in the Centennial Conference opener here on Saturday afternoon.
The Mules capitalized on a Red Devil turnover to strike first at the 10:48 mark on a nine-yard touchdown pass.
Dickinson answered with a 38-yard field-goal from first-year Matt Moroz (Hatfield, Pa./Pope John Paul II) with 2:29 remaining in the first quarter.
The Mules countered with a two-minute drive to stretch the margin to 14-3 at the end of the period.
Muhlenberg scored at the 9:51 mark and capitalized on another turnover to punch one in from the two-yard line to make the score, 28-3, at halftime.
The Red Devils came out strong again after the break, holding the Mules scoreless again in the third quarter. The visitors would tack on a touchdown and a field-goal early in the fourth quarter.
Dickinson continued to grind it out and would add a late scored on a nice drive to close out the fourth quarter. Robert Geiss (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) connected with Jack Porter (Rockville, Md./Landon) on a 25-yard pass and sophomore running back Bryce Baylor (Philadelphia, Pa./The Haverford School) broke free for a 22-yard touchdown run.
Geiss finished the day, 2-for-4 with 50 yards passing while adding 26 on the ground. Tim Graham (Darien, Conn./Darien) went 9-for-21 for 117 yards on the day.
Senior Daniel Salamone (Great Falls, Va./Langley) was just shy of the century mark, pulling in five catches for 92 yards while Christopher Longo (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) covered 44 yards on three receptions.
Jordan Hollander (Dalton, Pa./Abington Heights) averaged over 40 yards per punt for the second straight week, netting 40.9 yards on seven attempts.
Junior linebacker Brian Snow (Media, Pa./Episcopal) with a game-high 17 tackles, including seven solo stops. James Turner (Ridgefield, Conn./Suffield Academy) had seven solos as well, finishing with 12 on the afternoon. Senior Phil Petrina (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) returned an interception for 17 yards while sophomore Johnny Knight (Warwick, Md./Bohemia Manor) added eight tackles, including three-for-losses.
The Red Devils are on the road next weekend, traveling to Gettysburg College for the first rivalry game of the season, battling for possession of the Little Brown Bucket. Opening kick-off is set for 1:00 pm.
