Box Score (Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's basketball team suffered a 77-61 setback to visiting Ursinus College on Saturday afternoon at the Kline Center.
The opening quarter was a back-and-forth affair with the teams playing to an 8-8 tie at the midpoint of the period. Claudia Maira (Clinton, N.J./North Hunterdon) knocked down a late three-pointer to put Dickinson up, 16-10, was just under two minutes to play.
Lydia Konstanzer scored a pair of lay-ups to cut to deficit to 16-14 at the first break.
Junior Hannah Heiring (Wayzata, Minn./Wayzata) buried a three-pointer to start the second, triggering another back-and-forth period. The Bears put together a short run at the end of the half behind more strong play from Konstanzer, building the lead to eight.
Maira countered with a pair of free throws to cut the deficit to 33-27 at halftime. She finished the half with nine points and three assists while first-year Kate Deutsch (Marlton, N.J./Camden Catholic) led the Red Devils with 11 points.
The Red Devils scored first to open the second half, but the Bears countered with a 16-0 run. Halle Maeda (Santa Monica, Calif./Mira Costa) hit a three-pointer to break up the run and Jennifer Kremp (Jenkintown, Pa./Jenkintown) hit one to close out the third quarter with Ursinus holding a 59-39 advantage.
The Bears were able to maintain the lead throughout the fourth quarter. The Red Devils made a strong finish as Maeda found Deutsch inside for back-to-back layups, adding a three-point play on the second for the final of 77-61.
Deutsch finished with 21 points and eight rebounds, going 5-for-7 from the free throw line. Maira went 6-for-6 from the stripe, reaching double-figures with 11 points to go with three assists. Maeda tallied 10 points, four assists and two steals.
Juniors Emily Padalino (West Sand Lake, N.Y./Albany Academy) and Hannah Heiring (Wayzata, Minn./Wayzata) combined for 15 points and eight rebounds.
The Red Devils slip to 9-10 overall and 6-8 in the Centennial Conference. They are off midweek and travel to Haverford College for a 1:00 pm tip-off next Saturday.
