(Carlisle, Pa.) – The #-20 ranked Dickinson women's squash team captured a pair of victories on Sunday, posting an 8-1 win over Denison University and shutting out Haverford College, 9-0, for their fourth straight win.
In the opener against Denison, sophomore Nicole DeLuca (Newtown Square, Pa./Baldwin School) moved into the second flight and allowed just seven points in a straight set win, (11-1, 11-2, 11-4).
Alanis Perez (New Haven, Conn./Canterbury) finished strong (11-5, 11-1, 11-1) while Abbie Wingerd (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) and Merritt Davis (Baltimore, Md./Garrison Forest) allowed five points in wins at number six and number eight with identical scores of (11-2, 11-1, 11-2). Meagan Dashcund (South Hamilton, Mass./Phillips Exeter Academy) won the ninth (11-1, 11-2, 11-0).
The Red Devils had another dominant performance against Haverford. Sophomore Domenica Romo (Ambato, Ecuador/Colegio Atenas) stepped into the top flight and won in straight sets, (11-4, 11-7, 11-9).
DeLuca rallied from a 2-0 deficit to win the second (10-12, 6-11, 11-3, 11-3, 11-6). The Devils ran off straight set wins in the next seven flights. First-year Jaime Leigh Edghill (Diego Martin, Trinidad & Tobago/Holy Name) won the third (11-3, 11-3, 11-1) while Dashcund added another decisive win (11-1, 11-1, 11-2).
Perez and Wingerd claimed points at four and five while Sarah Murphy (Hamilton, Mass./Brooks School) went (11-2, 11-3, 11-2) in the seventh.
Patricia Francis-Hall (New York, N.Y./Pomfret School) and Davis closed out the match (11-6, 11-1, 11-0) and (11-2, 11-5, 11-2), respectively.
The Red Devils improve to 8-8 on the season. They are scheduled to host George Washington University on Saturday, February 11th at 3:00 pm.
