Box Score (Huntingdon, Pa.) – The Dickinson football team had a strong start at Juniata, but a big second quarter put the Eagles in control on the way to a 42-21 win on Saturday afternoon.
Tom Dex (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) intercepted a pass at the Red Devil 41 yard line to give the Red Devils some early excitement. The Devils were unable to capitalize and the teams traded punts with Dickinson taking over on its own 36 yard line.
The Eagles' Ryan Bologa picked up a fumble and ran 25 yards for a touchdown to take a 7-0 lead with 52 seconds to play in the first quarter. The Red Devils countered almost immediately as sophomore quarterback Billy Burger (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) connected with classmate Jake Walbert (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) for a 58 yard scoring strike to tie the game.
Juniata answered with a 78 yard touchdown pass to Kirby Breault. Breault came back with a big 43 yard punt return and caught another long pass to set up Juniata on the one yard line. David Vidovic dove in on the next play to give Juniata a 21-7 lead with 12:46 remaining in the half.
Breault made a pair of big catches, including a 35 yard touchdown to stretch the lead to 28-7 with 2:57 to play in the half.
The Eagles took advantage of an interception to start the second half as Coyne found Aaron O'Brien for a 70 yard touchdown pass to extend the margin to 35-7 at the 11:11 mark.
Burger covered 66 yards on the ground on the Devils' next possession, breaking free for a 48 yard touchdown, cutting the deficit to 35-14, with 8:42 to play in the third quarter.
The Eagles recovered a mishandled punt on the Dickinson four yard line and Vidovic would score two plays later on a one yard plunge at the 832 mark of the fourth.
The Devils put together a solid drive, covering 78 yards on 12 plays, capped by a seven yard touchdown run from first-year Allen Walters (Charleston, S.C./Porter Gaud), for the final of 42-21.
Coyne finished with 280 yards passing, completing 13-of-23 attempts for three touchdowns. Breault caught five passes for 171 yards while O'Brien finished with four receptions for 85 yards. Bologa led the defense with a game-high nine tackles and the fumble return.
Burger completed 16-of-32 passes for 195 yards while rushing for another 110 on the day. Walbert made six catches for 119 yards while Kyle Donahue (Glenside, Pa./Germantown Academy) caught two passes for 31 yards.
Pat Irwin (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) led the Devils with eight tackles while Matt Butz (Monkton, Md./Hereford) made seven stops.
The Red Devils slip to 0-2 on the season and 0-1 in the Centennial Conference. They return home to face Susquehanna University next Saturday at 1:00 pm.
