(Carlisle, Pa.) - The Dickinson women's soccer team bounced back after a midweek setback to #1-ranked Messiah College with a 3-1, Centennial Confernce win over Muhlenberg on Saturday.
Both teams started off the game aggressive, with Muhlenberg putting some quality shots on goal early. Momentum shifted back and forth for the first fifteen minutes and the Mules finally got through the Red Devil defense as Carly DeNigris netted the contest's first goal with 28:15 left in the first half.
Dickinson roared back, keeping the ball on Muhlenberg's side of the field until senior forward Bridgette Corbran (Manasquan, N.J.) scored with 18:23 to go in the first period with Jenna Lamb (Fairfax, V.A.) and Samantha Knapp (Washington, D.C.) assisting on the goal.
The Red Devils kept the pressure on as play continued and eventually tallied another goal as Taylor Brennan (Deer Park, N.Y.) scored with 7:20 left in the half, with Lamb recording her second assist of the game.
Both teams were hungry for more goals in the second half as each squad put multiple shots on net. The final period went on scoreless, though, until Knapp found the back of the net, putting Dickinson up 3-1 with 14:17 left to play.
The Mules fought hard to get back into the game, keeping the ball on the Red Devils' side of the field and putting shots on goal, but sophomore goalkeeper Amanda Masterson (Essex Falls, N.J.) prevented anything else from getting through and the game ended in a 3-1 victory for the Red Devils.
Dickinson finished the game with nineteen shots on goal, seven saves, four corner kicks, and four fouls. Muhlenberg tallied thirteen shots, eleven saves, eight corner kicks, and committed eleven fouls.
This win gives Dickinson a 5-3-2 overall record and a 1-1-1 mark in the Centennial Conference. They go on to face McDaniel College in another Centennial Conference matchup on Wednesday, October 7. Kick-off is set for 4:00 pm in Westminster.
