(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's basketball team opened with a strong first half and rolled to a 77-52 win over visiting Bryn Athyn College on Friday night.
Dickinson struck first and held a close, 9-8 lead, at the 14:51 mark. The Red Devils put together a 7-0 run to stretch the margin to 16-8, with 11:58 to play in the first half.
The Devils used another big run, outscoring the Lions 10-4, to hold a 26-12 lead with 7:44 on the clock.
Sophomore Helen Roberts (Oakton, Va./Oakton) buried a pair of three-pointers to put Dickinson up, 34-18, with 4:50 to play in the half. The Devils led by as many as 18, holding a 39-23 advantage at the break.
Dickinson outscored Bryn Athyn, 24-12, in the paint in the first half and held a 10-4 edge off the bench.
Sophomore Mary Martin (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) led the Devils with nine points and five rebounds in the first half. She added four steals and a block as well. Classmate Jennifer Smith (Short Hills, N.J./Millburn) tallied eight points while Liz Schultz (Dunmore, Pa./Scranton Prep) chipped in with seven.
The Devils came out strong to start the second half, quickly stretching the lead to 22. Smith pulled a rebound and fed Martin on a fast break to put the Devils in front, 50-28.
Sophomore Ellen Bair (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) continued the run, scoring seven points as the lead continued to grow. Martin added a pair of free throws to make the score, 59-28, with 13:52 remaining.
Dickinson led by 25 for the remainder of the game as the Lions were able to trade baskets, but not gain any ground on the Devils.
Martin finished with a team-high 15 points and seven rebounds, hitting 5-of-8 free throws. Smith and Schultz each scored 11 points and combined for nine rebounds on the night.
Roberts tallied eight points and four rebounds, as did first-year Myonie Williamson (Newtown Square, Pa./Radnor). First-year Mairead Donahue (Trumball, Conn./St. Joseph) had a strong performance as well, adding seven points and seven rebounds to go with a pair of assists and a steal.
Bair had seven points, three assists and three steals. Kassidy Lesher (Shoemakersville, Pa./Hamburg) chipped in with six rebounds and Kelsey Walsh (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) dished out four assists.
Kristina Clark led Bryn Athyn (1-3) with a game-high 19 points and four rebounds.
The Red Devils improve to 3-7 on the season. They return to action after the new year, traveling to Washington College on January 7th.
