(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's basketball team had a tough outing against visiting Messiah on Wednesday night, falling 69-34. Sophomore forward Gillian Glackin led the way for the Falcons with a double-double, scoring game-highs of 19 points and 13 rebounds.
The Falcons struck first, scoring back-to-back field-goals before senior Liz Schultz (Dunmore, Pa./Scranton Prep) knocked-down a three-pointer to cut the lead to 4-3.
Messiah went on a 10-0 run with strong play from Glackin and a three-pointer by Sienna Wisse. The Falcons continued to build on the lead throughout the first half, taking a 36-14 advantage into the break.
The Red Devils struggled from the field in the first half, shooting just 17 percent. Messiah held a 9-1 edge in points off turnovers and outrebounded the Devils, 26-15.
The second half saw improvement from the Devils, but Messiah would continue to stretch the margin with solid defense and strong free throw shooting. The Falcons converted 14-of-16 from the charity stripe in the second half, finishing 26-of-31 for the game (83.9%).
First-year Myonie Williamson (Newtown Square, Pa./Radnor) came off the bench to spark the Red Devils, scoring seven points and grabbing four rebounds to go with two assists. Classmate Kassidy Lesher (Shoemakersville, Pa./Hamburg) had a strong performance as well, scoring six points and controlling six rebounds on the night.
Sophomore Mary Martin (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) added six rebounds while Schultz tallied five points and four rebounds.
Jen Fairbanks reached double-figures for Messiah (5-4) as well, scoring 16 points and controlling eight rebounds. She went 8-for-10 from the foul line while Glackin finished 9-for-11 from the line, adding three steals and a pair of blocks.
The Red Devils slip to 2-7 overall. They return to action in the Kline Center on Friday night, hosting Bryn Athyn at 7:00 pm.
