Second Quarter Surge Carries Mules to Win

(Allentown, Pa.) – The Dickinson football team had a tough outing at Muhlenberg College on Saturday, falling, 42-3.

 

Cody Geyer caught seven passes for 151 yards and touchdowns of 58 and 62 yards, to lead the Mules on offense.

 

The Red Devils kept the Mules in check for the first quarter, trailing just 7-0 at the end of the opening stanza. They forced a pair of punts and missed a 48-yard field-goal attempt. Muhlenberg scored on a 62 yard pass from Nick Palladino to Cody Geyer, with 6:22 remaining in the quarter.

 

The Mules stretched the lead to, 14-0, scoring on a 58-yard scoring strike to Geyer, just nine seconds into the second quarter. Geyer tacked on another score, this time running in from 24 yards out, with 7:32 to play in the half.

 

Dickinson got on the board with a 24-yard field-goal from junior Adam Kaminski (Exton, Pa./Bishop Shanahan), with 1:51 on the clock.

 

The Mules added another dagger, scoring on a 10-yard run from Palladino, with just 25 seconds remaining in the half. Palladino tossed a 31-yard touchdown to Michael Long for the lone score of the third quarter. Joe Carlucci came on and threw a touchdown pass to Brendan Connelly for the Mules' final score in the fourth.

 

Palladino completed 15-of-18 passes for 255 yards and three touchdowns while Carlucci went 6-for-10 with a touchdown and an interception, throwing for 111 yards.

 

The Mules combined for 140 yards rushing and 366 passing, on the day. Geyer added 43 yards on kick returns for 218 all-purpose yards.

 

Sophomore Shawn Wilson (Philadelphia, Pa./Malvern Prep) rushed for 44 yards on 13 carries while Cedric Madden (Norristown, Pa./Chestnut Hill Academy) added 31 yards on the day.

 

Junior quarterback Michael Carmella (East Stroudsburg, Pa./East Stroudsburg South) completed 7-of-14 passes for 81 yards. Wilson threw a 24 yard pass to Devin Gaby (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) in the second quarter. Gaby made three catches for 78 yards on the afternoon.

 

First-year Kevin Sherry (Swarthmore, Pa./Strath Haven) led the defense with eight tackles, including a sack. Michael Miller (Hainesport, N.J./Bishop Eustace) tallied eight tackles as well while Connor Thompson (Jenkintown, Pa./Father Judge) and Shane Mitchell (Whitehaven, Pa./Crestwood) each added five stops.

 

Sophomore Jake Myers (Middletown, Del./St. Andrew's) made four tackles and had a 35-yard interception return.

 

The Red Devils fall to 3-5 overall and 3-4 in the Centennial Conference. They are on the road again next Saturday, traveling to Gettysburg College for a 1:00 kick-off.
