(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson College women's soccer
team rallied past visiting Haverford, 2-1, in overtime on Saturday
afternoon. The Red Devils set a school record, winning their ninth
consecutive game of the season as they improve to 12-2-1 overall
and 7-1 to remain in first place in the Centennial Conference.
Following a scoreless first half, the 'Fords snapped the Devils'
seven game shutout streak as Meg Boyer won a footrace and placed a
shot in the back of the net for a 1-0 advantage.
The Red Devils answered on a corner kick in the 63rd
minute. Sophomore Heather
Jaran (Budd Lake, N.J./Mt. Olive) served a beautiful
corner to the far post that was taken into the goal by first-year
Samantha
Friday (Southborough, Mass./Algonquin Regional).
The teams battle scoreless throughout the final 27 minutes,
sending the game into overtime. Junior Genevieve
Olson (Quincy, Mass./Thayer Academy) wasted little
time, scoring the game-winner just 1:29 into the extra period.
Junior Brena McKelvey (East Islip, N.Y./East
Islip) and Ashley
Fields (Far Hills, N.J./Ridge) anchored a solid
defensive effort in front of goalkeeper Annie
Weichert (Chatham, N.J./Chatham), who made one save in
the win.
Senior Ashley
Kunkle (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) turned in a strong
performance in the midfield and Amanda
DiGiammarino (Great Falls, Va./Langley) came off the
bench and provided some quality minutes as well.
The Red Devils are home again on Tuesday, hosting Gettysburg
College at 4:30 pm.
