Devils Hold Off Shoremen For Huge Conference Win

CARLISLE, Pa. - After a tough loss in Collegeville on Thursday night, the Dickinson men's basketball team returned to the Kline Center on Saturday afternoon for a pivotal Centennial Conference clash against the Shoremen of Washington College. The Red and White collected 30 combined points from Isaiah Edmond and Nate Ogbu en route to a huge 57-52 win.

It was the visitors who got off to a good start as Kedrick Frink and Paul Rodolf had them out to a 7-4 lead with just over five minutes gone. Triples by Andrew Gostovich and Skyler Venezia along with a pair of free throws for Venezia aided an 8-2 sprint for the host to make it 12-9. The Shoremen were then able to mount a push of their own as Jason Zielinski hit from deep to spark an 8-2 run finished off by a Frink jumper to reclaim the lead at 17-14 with seven minutes remaining. Layups from Brandon Wiercinski and Ogbu coupled by two foul shots each by Luis Ruiz and Ogbu brought the Red and White back ahead by the slimmest of margins 24-21 at the 16:58 mark. After the guests tallied the next three points, Anthony Goeb and Ogbu ended the period on a 7-0 run to take a 31-24 lead into the break.

Rodolf began the second frame with a trey, but then was quickly answered by buckets for Edmond and Wiercinski to help DC add one point to their advantage at 37-29 with 15:25 to play. Zack Skrocki, Frink and Zielinski then took it upon themselves to bring their side back into the game with a 10-3 charge as Matt Mahoney and Ogbu supplied the home points to hold onto the lead barely 40-39. Two layups by Ogbu and solo shots on the charity line for Gobe and Ogbu stretched the margin out to five (46-41) inside ten minutes remaining. The duo of Frink and Skrocki tried to keep the Shoremen afloat closing to 46-45, but an "old-fashioned" three-point play by Cole Cosby and a conventional triple for Wiercinski ballooned the lead out to 52-45. After jumpers for Frink and Rodolf, the Devils would do enough to hold on as Edmond would rack up four points, while Ogbu hit once on the line to seal up the 57-52 victory.
