Inside the Game
McDaniel struck first off of DC starter
Riley Kuehn as a leadoff bunt single from Katy Newton started the rally, before she swiped second and went to third on a DC miscue. Bella Sylvester then made it 1-0 two batters in with a sacrifice fly to center. Kuehn then setdown the next two hitters to end the frame. Dickinson had the response during the home-half as
Devon Kueny doubled to begin things followed by a free pass to
Jane Lloyd and an error allowing
Eden Blanker to reach to load the bags for
Paige Hahn. During her at-bat starter Mel Grant hurled a pitch off the backstop letting one score, while another McDaniel error allowed Lloyd to hustle home giving the Red and White a 2-1 lead through one. Kuehn surrendered one base runner in the second when Makayla Calamita doubled, but went no further. Then, in the home-half of the frame singles from
Emily Whelan and
Laila Gwathmey brought home the third of the game with two away. Kueny's second hit of the game put runners on the corners for Lloyd, unfortunately she flew out to center to retire the side.Â
The game moved on to the fourth inning with DC still on top 3-1 when with two down base hits from Mandy Butz and Kylie Sears gave McDaniel a chance to bring the tying run to the dish in the form of Jessica Millard. Fortunately, for Kuehn she got her to flyout to Kueny in center for the last out. In the bottom-half of the frame Hannah Costa took over for Grant and allowed a one-out knock to Brook Espenshade, before getting Gwathmey and Kueny to popout and groundout respectively.Â
McDaniel got on level terms an inning later as back-to-back singles from Colleen Camburn and Katy Newton began things, prior to a sac bunt by Bella Sylvester moving them into scoring position. Evie Craig then delivered a sac fly to center, followed by a two-bagger from Paytyn Hazelton to make it 3-3. Kuehn then settled down as she got Butz to popup to her in the circle for the final out. The Red and White reclaimed the lead in the last of the inning with a single from Lloyd and walk to
Paige Hahn setting the stage for an RBI single to left-center for
Zoe Kleeblatt. A flyout and strikeout prevented any more damage as we went to sixth at 4-3. Kuehn gave up just one more base runner over the final two frames when Calamita provided a leadoff knock in the sixth, before the she retired the next six hitters to end the game.

Inside the Game
A leadoff walk by
Lindsay Kucker drawn by Newton came around to score two batters later when Calamita singled to center. A popup and groundout surrounded the second walk of the frame to prevent any more runs. Dickinson had the answer in the home-half as singles from Kueny and
Eden Blanker, set the stage for a two-out rip through the left-side by Kleeblatt to make it 1-1.
Abby Kohan then popped up to second for the final out. After a scoreless top of the second, Dickinson added one more during the last of frame as a knock from Whelan kicked things off, before two batters later Gwathmey sent one back "up the box" to drive in the go-ahead marker 2-1 through two.Â
McDaniel tried to get even during the third with Calamita and Craig both reaching with one out. However, Kucker got Hazleton to ground into a 5-3 double-play to retire the side. In the home-half the Red and White loaded the bags thanks to a double by Blanker, single from Kleeblatt and walk to Kohan. That brought Whelan into the box and she smoked a two-run single to left for the 4-1 lead. Espenshade and Gwathmey tried to add-on to the lead, but both were turned away by Murphy to stall the rally.Â
A quiet fourth gave way to the fifth where three singles from the Green Terror led one coming home and leaving players at the corners with just one away. That resulted in Kucker being replaced by
Kaylie Renner. She immediately gave up an RBI double to Hazelton to close within 4-3, before getting Butz to strikeout and Sears to popout. Dickinson tried to respond in the bottom-half as they got two on with one away, before a pair of flyouts wrapped up the inning. Singles from Lloyd and Blanker during the sixth gave the Devils a chance to pick up an insurance run, unfortunately both Kleeblatt and Kohan were retired to end the frame. In the top of the seventh, Renner gave up a one-out walk, before getting a flyout and strikeout to end the game.
