Eight Devils Record RBIs in Sweep of PSU-Mont Alto

MONT ALTO, Pa. - Led by eight RBIs and two jacks by first-year Eden Blanker the Dickinson softball team left the Penn State Mont Alto softball field with a non-conference doubleheader sweep over the Nittany Lion on Tuesday afternoon winning by scores of 5-2 and 19-1.

Game One - DEVILS 5, Nittany Lions 2
Pitching Decision

W - Riley Kuehn (2-2) | L - Delaney Glazer (1-3)

Inside the Game
Dickinson had the lead three batters into the game as Devon Kueny led off with a double and advanced to third on a groundout by June Lloyd. That resulted Blanker picking up her first RBI with a sac fly to left leaving it at 1-0 after one. The Red and White piled on an inning later when a walk for Jessie Sandusky, knock for Zoe Kleeblatt and walk to Laia Gwathmey filled the bags for Kueny. She produced an RBI single, before a two-out bases loaded hit by a pitch drove home Kleeblatt to extend the lead to 3-0 through two.

Over the next three innings Kuehn did not give Mont Alto even a sniff at trying to get back into the game as she retired nine straight batters to hold things at 3-0 heading to the sixth. In that frame an infield single for Jen Klepfer with one gone, led to Gwathmey smashing a triple to right plating pinch-runner Emma Varella. The next hitter was Kueny who sent one to center field scoring another one to make it 5-0. It would stay that until the last of the seventh when the Lions tallied thanks to two Devil errors and a double by Dani-Lynn Barklow. However, Kuehn would get Sierra Sims to popup to the circle for the final out of the contest.

Game Two - DEVILS 19, Nittany Lions 1
Pitching Decision
W - Lindsay Kucker (4-1) | L - Kirsten Dell (1-2)

Inside the Game
The Red and White were busy early and often in the first as they sent 13 batters to the plate racking up 10 runs on seven hits. Kueny reached on an error to start, followed by a single for Lloyd and walk to Blanker filling the bags for Paige Hahn. She made it 3-0 with a bases-clearing single, before moving to second on the second Nittany Lion error of the frame. After a single by Abby Kohan and a walk to Sandusky the bases were loaded again for Kleeblatt who pushed the margin to 5-0 with a knock to center leaving player at the corners. That ended the day for the starter Dell as she was replaced by MacKenzie Stake. She fared no batter giving up a two-run two-bagger to Kucker, prior to an RBI two-out double by Lloyd stretching it to 8-0. The Devils made it 10-0 when Blanker smashed a two-run shot to straightaway center. Kucker surrendered three consecutive one-out singles letting PSU score their lone run of the contest in the home-half.

Dickinson added three more during the second when with one gone Sandusky singled to left, before Kleeblatt ripped an RBI double to left. That resulted in the third pitcher of the game for PSU as Haley Dawson took over. Kucker gave the Devils a dozen by reaching on an error against McKenna Sas at first. A single from Gwathmey had runners on the corners for Kueny who plating "Lucky 13" with a groundout to Dawson for the 13-1 edge after just one-and-a-half. The Devils posted another in the third thanks to a double by Blanker and single for Sandusky setting the stage for the RBI knock off the stick of Kleeblatt. The Red and White kept going in the fourth with two as a Gwathmey single, Lions error and Lloyd walk filled the pillows for Blanker. She continued her solid afternoon with a two-run smash out to center for a double. Pinch hitter Hope Josti stepped in to hit for Hahn and provided a sac fly to left scoring run number 16. The Devils finally ended their onslaught in the fifth when a leadoff double by Kucker led to an RBI single from Kueny. Blanker then secured RBIs five and six of the contest by sending a two-run homer over the left-field fence making it 19-1.

Kucker was masterful in the circle as well hurling five frames allowing just one run on five hits and fanning ten.

The On-Deck Circle
Dickinson (8-8) returns to action on Thursday afternoon in Chambersburg when they visit Wilson College for a non-conference double-dip beginning at 3pm.
