Box Score CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson men's basketball team took a ten-point lead to the half, and built their advantage out to 20 early in the second-half, before having to hold off a furious rally by the visiting Gettysburg College to earn a 69-60 win over the Bullets on Tuesday night in front of a raucous Kline Center.
Dickinson began the contest strong as Chris Bates, Ryan Robinson, and Jack Tierney each scored to take a 7-2 lead with three minutes gone. Bates brought the crowd to their feet a minute later as he stepped behind the arc and dropped a triple to make it 10-4, he would follow that up with two at the stripe to hold the lead at 14-8 with 6:46 gone. Robinson then found his touch as he accounted for the next seven DC points to bump the margin to eight 19-11. The Devils would take the advantage to double-digits at the 10:57 mark thanks to buckets by Brandon Wiercinski, Robinson, and Tierney to make it 26-15. After a free throw by Elijah Williams slowed the charge for a moment Robinson added five consecutive points to extend the advantage to 31-16. Gettysburg rallied back as five points by Carl Schaller aided a 12-3 run to close within 34-28. Bates and Robinson each added buckets over the final two minutes to make it 38-28 at half.
Avery Close and Drew Haueisen started the second period by exchanging 5-0 runs to leave the margin at 43-33, before Jordan Stafford knocked down a pull-up jumper to trim the gap under ten (43-35). The Devils would then open the lead to 18 (55-37) thanks to a 12-2 run sparked by three straight triples from Luke Spellman. A Colin Farrell basket quieted the crowd for a brief moment before Andrew Gostovich and Haueisen tallied extending the lead to 59-39 with 12:07 left. The visitors fought back as Ryan McKeon scored eight points during a 19-2 run by the Bullets punctuated with a Williams dunk to cut the deficit to 61-58. Having been quiet for most of the night the reigning Centennial Conference Player of the Week Anthony Goeb knocked four of six free throws to nudge the lead out to 65-60 with 35 seconds left. After a missed three by Jack Rooney the Devils salted the game away at the line as Haueisen and Gostovich each knocked down a pair for the 69-60 final.
