Devils Second Half Rally Comes Up Short

Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - The Dickinson men's basketball team trailed by 13 (57-44) with just over six minutes left and used a 16-6 run to pull within three (63-60). However, it would not be enough as the host Gettysburg College Bullets outpaced the Red and Black 6-3 down the stretch to hold on for a 69-63 win at Bream Gymnasium.

A Jack Tierney layup was the only bucket for the away side over the opening 6:27 as a basket by Elijah Williams finished off a 13-2 push for the Bullets. The next eight DC points came from Ryan Robinson in just over a minute stretch to make it 13-10, before a triple by Anthony Goeb drew the score level 13-13. A free throw, as well as a layup by Goeb, gave the Red and Black their first lead since 2-1 at 16-15 at the halfway mark. Avery Close, Colin Farrell, and Rassoul Abakar put together a 6-0 run to reclaim the lead, prior to a Tierney layup stunting the charge at 21-18 with 7:30 left. The two teams then split the following eight points, until the Bullets responded with a 5-0 push to grab a 30-22 advantage. Goeb hit from long-range and Williams added a buzzer-beating dunk to send the game to the half at 32-25.

Dickinson began the second period strong as Chris Bates, Drew Haueisen, Goeb, and Robinson all put up points inside the opening three minutes, but were only able to chip a little bit off the deficit making it 37-32. Triples from Robinson and Tierney along with an "old-fashioned" three-point play for Bates capped a 9-3 run to move the Devils back on top 41-40 with just five minutes gone. The next ten minutes belonged to the home team as they stormed back into the lead at 57-44 thanks to a 17-3 rampage with the only Dickinson bucket coming out of the hands of Andrew Gostovich. Luke Spellman and Goeb would each add four points, while Randy Shephard chipped in three during an 11-2 response for the visitors cutting the margin to 59-55 at the 16:58 mark. Four straight at the charity stripe by Close killed the Devils momentum for a minute before Gostovich and Goeb netted five in a row to make it 63-60. A Haueisen three was the only bucket during a 9-3 Bullets run to close the game for the 69-63 final.
