Women's Swimming Taken Down by Bloomsburg

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Dickinson women's swimming team gave a good account of themselves all day, but ultimately fell to Division II Bloomsburg University by a score of 126-74 on Saturday afternoon at the Nelson Field House Pool.

In the first event of the day the team of Sarah Caron, Caroline Christianson, Kelly Hester, and Margaux Reyna earned a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay with a mark of 1:55.87. The group of Sarah McHenry, Sarah Mulcahy, Maddi Vlattas, and Margie Winter came in just about six seconds later. 

The Devils were the only team to compete in the 1000-yard freestyle with Sophie Laclef taking the win in 11:36.21, followed by Emily Carkhuff (11:56.91) and Hadley Starr (12:12.22). 

In the 200-yard freestyle, Christianson seized a fourth-place finish with a mark of 2:06.01. 

Olivia Abbott-Havers made her presence felt in the 50-yard freestyle taking second by hitting the wall in 25.34 nipping at the heels of Lindsay Mooney's mark of 25.12.

The Red and Black took home sixth through ninth in the 200-yard individual medley thanks to Vlattas (2:25.64), Hester (2:26.70), Hannah Strauss (2:30.81), and Mulcahy (2:36.14).

Starr (1:05.16), Reyna (1:05.62), Mulcahy (1:07.39), and Winter (1:07.47) all put up solid times in the 100-yard butterfly.

Strauss gave it all she had in the 100-yard freestyle to earn a third-place result with a mark of 58.21, while Christianson's time of 1:00.05 was good for fifth.

Caron came in two seconds off the pace in the 100-yard backstroke hitting the wall at 1:01.14, falling just behind the winner Grace Beierschmitt (59.26).

Abbott-Havers earned the Devils first victory of the meet triumphing in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:29.86. Laclef (5:44.09) and Carkhuff (5:50.70) both put up Top-5 marks as well.

Hester landed on the podium in the 100-yard breaststroke taking third at 1:12.31. The trio of Vlattas (1:13.82), Izzy Moes (1:14.51), and Cate Lord (1:20.35) occupied fifth through seventh.

The team of Abbott-Havers, Caron, Reyna, and Strauss won the final event of the day by posting a 1:46.77 in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Dickinson will return to the home waters on Tuesday night at 6 p.m. when they host the Royals of the University of Scranton.
