Box Score (Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's basketball team made a great run to overcome a second half deficit to force overtime but visiting Franklin & Marshall would pull away in the second extra-frame for a 90-81 double-overtime win at the Kline Center.
The game was plagued with stoppages as the teams combined for 65 fouls on the night, making 79 trips to the free throw line.
The game was tied at the mid-point of the first half before a 10-0 run put the Diplomats in front, 24-14, with seven minutes to play in the half.
Solomon Mathis hit a pair of late free throws to give him 13 points and F&M a 35-26 advantage at halftime.
The Red Devils had a strong start to the second half, led by Jack Tierney (Darien, Conn./Darien) and first-year Travis Dobbins (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley), cutting the deficit to 42-39, with just under 13 minutes remaining in regulation.
Tierney cut the lead to two before an 8-0 run put F&M up, 52-44.
The Red Devils chipped away again and went in front on a Ryan Robinson (Vienna, Va./George Marshall) three-pointer after back-to-back scores from Chris Bates (Ellicott City, Md./Boys' Latin).
F&M went in front by three, but Dobbins would answer with a triple to tie the game. Mathis countered with a short jumper before first-year KJ Holton (Clinton, Md./DeMatha) made a great driving lay-up with 39 seconds on the clock.
The Red Devils forced a turnover but a last second effort was just off the mark, sending the game into overtime.
The Diplomats built a four-point lead in the final seconds of the first overtime, but it was Robinson again, scoring a pair of lay-ups, netting the second at the buzzer to send the game into overtime number two.
Mike Rice knocked down a three-pointer to start the second overtime and the Diplomats would not relinquish the lead, going 6-for-8 from the free line to secure the win.
Robinson led the Red Devils with 19 points, going 8-for-10 from the free throw line and 5-for-5 from the field, adding seven rebounds and three assists.
Tierney hit 6-of-9 shots and went 4-for-4 from the line for 17 points to go with four rebounds. Holton and Dobbins finished with 14 and 13 points, respectively, while Bates tallied eight points and seven rebounds. Will Colleran (Wayne, Pa./Valley Forge Military Academy) grabbed six rebounds and blocked a pair of shots on the night.
The Red Devils slip to 1-6 overall and 1-3 in the Centennial Conference. They are on the road on Saturday, traveling to Immaculata University for a 1:00 pm tip-off.
