(Cambridge, Mass.) – The Dickinson men's squash team went the distance with MIT on Sunday in the consolation final of the (C-Division Summers Cup) at the College Squash Association Team Championships.
The #22-ranked Red Devils were looking to avenge a 6-3 setback to the #21-ranked Engineers, earlier this season. The Devils battled, trading flights for a 4-4 tie before MIT claimed the final point.
Sophomore Abdelrahman Elsergany (Cairo, Egypt/Kent School, Conn.) claimed the top spot 3-1, (11-4, 11-8, 1-11, 11-9) while classmate Hal Holappa (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) traded sets in a five-game marathon, winning his match (9-11, 11-8, 7-11, 11-8, 11-8) in the second spot.
Harrison Mayo (Penn Valley, Pa./Harriton) went 3-0 at the sixth and Vincent Warzecha (Chester Springs, Pa./Malvern Prep) outlasted Bowen Baker in the seventh (10-12, 11-6, 11-7, 9-11, 11-8).
First-year Alex Wattles (Millburn, N.Y./Millburn) put up a fight in the three spot while Cory Litman (Lower Merion, Pa./Lower Merion) and Andrew Strudwick (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest Academy) suffered losses in hard fought, five set matches at four and five.
Litman dropped an epic, high scoring match-up (8-11, 12-10, 9-11, 11-7, 12-10) while Strudwick went (9-11, 1-11, 12-10, 11-8, 11-7).
The Red Devils slip to 10-13 overall. They will compete at the CSA Individual Championships on March 3rd, 4th and 5th at Dartmouth College.
