Box Score (Carlisle, Pa.) – An inspired Dickinson men's basketball team came out strong and finished strong, but 19th-ranked Franklin & Marshall would escape the Kline Center with a slim, 64-62 win on Wednesday night.
An early battle saw the Red Devils take a 6-4 lead on a three-pointer from senior guard Brandon Angradi (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley). Senior Ted Hinnenkamp (York, Pa./York Suburban) knocked down a three-pointer to put Dickinson up, 16-12, with 13:02 to play in the first half.
The Diplomats pulled even and the teams traded baskets through the middle of the first half. Angradi buried three-pointers on consecutive possessions to put the Devils up, 26-24, with 8:11 to play in the half.
Brandon Federici answered with a three for F&M for a 27-26 lead at the 5:20 mark. The Devils pulled back in front, 30-37, but the Diplomats would end the half on a 10-2 run to take a 37-32 advantage into the break.
Angradi started off the second half with a three-pointer, right out of the gate. Junior Robert Picka (Timonium, Md./Dulaney) turned in a dominant performance in the paint, playing a key role in keeping the Red Devils within striking distance.
First-year Jule Brown (Ardmore, Pa./Lower Merion) made a strong move, converting a three-point play to pull Dickinson within a field-goal, 45-43. He later scored off a Hinnenkamp steal to knot the game, 47-47, with 9:26 remaining in regulation.
F&M built the lead back to five before Mike Hinckley (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Episcopal Academy) and Elijah Wright (Orange, N.J./The Pennington School) combined for four free throws. Following a two minute scoring drought, Hunter Eggers made it a three-point game but Hinckley would answer immediately with a three-pointer to tie the game with 4:05 on the clock.
Hinckley cut a four-point lead in half, hitting a pair of free throws with 1:27 to play, to make the score 64-62. The Red Devils made a couple of solid defensive stands down the stretch, but were unable to convert the tying basket in the end.
Moune and Federici each scored 18 points to lead the Diplomats (15-3, 10-1 CC).
Angradi led the Red Devils with 17 points, hitting four three-pointers and recording four steals. Hinnenkamp finished with 17 points as well, grabbing seven rebounds. Hinckley reached double-figures with 10 points, hitting 5-of-6 free throws.
Brown added seven points and three assists. Wright grabbed a team-high eight rebounds to go with six points while Picka tallied four points, six rebounds and three key blocked shots.
The Red Devils slip to 6-11 overall and 5-5 in the Centennial Conference. They are on the road this weekend, traveling to Ursinus College for a 1:00 pm start.
