(Charlottesville, Va.) – The Dickinson men's squash team traveled south to face to strong Division I opponents on Saturday. The Devils suffered a 9-0 setback to the host University of Virginia and dropped a 9-1 decision to the University of Richmond.
Nicholas Struzenski (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) earned the point in the top flight against Richmond, surviving in five sets, (7-11, 11-7, 8-11, 11-5, 11-9). He had a strong third set against Virginia but suffered a (11-4, 11-5, 11-7) decision to Jonathan Patterson.
Sam Portelance (New Milford, Conn./Canterbury School) dropped an 11-4, 11-9, 11-8 match in the third flight while Zach Keller-Coffey (Millbrook, N.Y./Millbrook) battled in the fifth spot before falling (9-11, 11-6, 11-0, 11-1). Portelance had strong first and third sets in the Virginia match, but suffered an 11-8, 11-0, 11-7 defeat to Matthew Brown.
On Sunday the Red Devils fell to Div. I Fordham and Bucknell University, 9-0, in both matches.
Nadim El-Jaroudi (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) had a strong start in the fourth flight before dropping a 3-1 decision against Paul Monaghan of Fordham. Monagham took the first set, 12-10 but lost the second, 11-9. He rallied to claim the match, 11-0, 11-5.
Portelance had a solid showing the third flight, battling in both matches. Stuzenski also played well in the top flight, but fell (11-7, 11-6, 11-5) against Bucknell.
Preston Miller (New York, N.Y./Westminster School) challenged in the second flight while Jeffery Chamberlain (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) and Kevin Zhu (Stanford, Conn./Westhill) had strong sets as well on Sunday.
The Red Devils slip to 2-9 overall, They are scheduled to travel to New York University next weekend.
