Red Devils Topple Diplomats 77-66 in Conference Finale

(Lancaster, Pa.) – The Dickinson College men's basketball team turned in an outstanding performance at Franklin & Marshall, spoiling senior day with a 77-66 win in the unfriendly confines of the Mayser Center on Saturday afternoon.

 

In just his second season, head coach Alan Seretti has led the Red Devils to the Centennial Conference semifinals with a second place finish. The Devils set a school record, finishing 12-6 in conference play, improving to 14-11 overall.

 

Each team had four players reach double-figures. Senior captain Matt Dolan (Chalfont, Pa./St. Joe's Prep) led all scorers with a game-high 19 points. He added seven rebounds, three assists, three steals and a pair of blocked shots while hitting 5-of-6 free throws on the day.

 

The Red Devils jumped out to a 5-0 lead and stretched the margin to 17-7 at the 12:27 mark of the first half. First-year Adam Honig (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) drained a three-pointer to give Dickinson its biggest lead of the game, 24-11, with 9:42 to play in the half.

 

The Diplomats rallied with a 12-1 run to pull within a field-goal, 25-23, at the 5:31 mark. The Devils answered with a 10-1 run to lead by 11 and held a 39-31 advantage at halftime.

 

The Red Devils remained in front by double-figures for almost the entire second half. Georgio Milligan scored to pull the Diplomats within seven at the 4:13 mark. The teams traded points down the stretch but the Devils hit 6-of-7 free throws to secure the win.

 

Honig finished with 16 points, hitting 4-of-8 three-pointers on the day. Sophomore Chris Barsanti (Hummelstown, Pa./Tilton School) played outstanding, adding 13 points, six rebounds and three steals. He was perfect from the line, hitting 5-of-5 attempts.

 

Tucker Landy (Durham, Conn./Xavier) reached double-figures with 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting while Doug Jakiela (Wayne, Pa./Conestoga) came on to add seven points and control four rebounds, hitting 3-of-4 from the stripe.

 

Milligan finished with 14 points and four assists to lead Franklin & Marshall (20-5, 15-3). Mike Baker recorded a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. James McNally and Brandon Beckford each scored a dozen for the Diplomats.

 

The Red Devils will return to the Mayser Center as the #2-seed next Saturday for the Centennial Conference Semifinals. They will face #3-seed Gettysburg College while the host Diplomats will face the winner of Wednesday's first round game between McDaniel and Haverford.
